Listen to the beginner piano arrangement of The First Noel.
“The First Noel” is a traditional classical English Christmas carol. “Noel” is an early English word that means “Christmas.” It was first published in the hymn book “Carols Ancient and Modern” in 1823, however, it was not until 1871 that it was set to its familiar tune by the English composer John Stainer. The verses about the Annunciation to the shepherds and the Adoration of the shepherds are from the second chapter of the Gospel of Luke. The Star of Bethlehem appears in the story of the Magi (the Wise Men) in the Gospel of Matthew.
