Elvina Mable wrote Jesus Paid It All on a blank page in the “New Lute of Zion [hymnal], in the choir of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Baltimore, in the spring of 1865.” Her popular hymn was included in Ira Sankey’s Sacred Songs and Solos, 1878.
