The words of Psalm 46 has inspired a number of hymns, most notably Martin Luther’s A Mighty Fortress is Our God. The Psalter of 1912 includes a versification of Psalm 46 titled God is Our Refuge and Our Strength. Our arrangement is sung to the tune Materna (America the Beautiful). In some other hymnals, however, it is sung to the tune of Bethlehem. The hymn is often sung during national holidays.
